Pilot Plus

unit-design has assisted Fraport in designing and implementing a new wayfinding system, called Pilot Plus. Subtle improvements to legibility and the structure of information were at the heart of the assignment. The intention was for passengers to continue to experience the typical character of the signage at Frankfurt Airport. The projects incorporated all features necessary for orientation, from labels via complex sign installations to customs booths subject to strict official specifications.

The principal challenge lay in installing the features while the airport was operational, without annoying passengers. unit-design is very much involved in ongoing development of the system. For example, we are working on dynamic, linked pathways so that we can provide passengers with up-to-date information on changes in the process (capacity, opening times of security and passport checkpoints, closures, shuttle bus or SkyLine cancellations, emergencies).
